August 15, 2017 s Check the Chip Day!
Having your pet receive a microchip is a great way to increase your chances of being reunited with him/her if they are lost. However, a microchip only works if it is implanted and registered.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) came together and made August 15, 2017, "Check the Chip Day".
As a pet owner, you can:
1) Have your pet implanted with a microchip if you have not done so already. A chip can be done with your pet's next examination.
2) Have the microchip checked to verify that the chip is located correctly. (Most microchips are usually placed between or over the shoulder blades.) Occasionally a chip may migrate and a new chip will need to be placed.
3) Check your pet's chip registration. If your contact information is incorrect then your pet may not be reunited with you. your paragraph here.
